sewer treatment blog

1. at the sewer plant i learned that by the time the waste gets there its not like all poopy but more of a grayish liquid. also i learned that they have several diff processes to clean and filter the water. one was by adding micro-organisms to at the waste ant another is to slowly turn the water and as the sediment falls its slowly sweeped up by a big arm. i also learned that they had to add oxygen to the water for the micro-organisms to live and duplicate.
2. yes, i will recycle more often now that i know where the plants are and how empty most of the containers were empty. although if there were a closer plant and one that was able to recycle more that bottles and paper would be far more efficient.

city talk

1. Kristy Reinecke, she was the City Clerk
2. they replaced all the old pipes with new one with better storm drains and a filtering system before it dumps off into the river.
3. it will stop sewage/waste from getting into the river and river life. thus saving the environment
4. it will greatly reduce runoff nitrates from gettting into the river and killing the fish but thats only if it comes from the pipes if runoff occurs anywhere else it wil still have major affects
5. that the consruction would be done!!!!!
6. my biobottle has just started to grow grass despite being watered with pop daily
7. i have been talking to my managers about recycling plastics to improve the environment.
8. we have made great progress and its really strting to come around

water testing connection

1. nitrates and mcdonalds
2. we plan on reducing nitrates and pollutants emitted from mcdonalds. we also want to study the affects it plays on the environment.by doing so we can measure how better the environment would be if fast food places became more earth friendly. also we plan to measure the run off of waste and it affects on the environment
3. we will have several diff biobottle environments and one control bottle. in one bottle we will Be testing the effects of plastic in the environment. in the second we're testing the effects of pop in the soil. and finally in the third we are testing the effects of food left out in the environment to rot
4. nitrates can have several effects on the environment as well as on our health. one health affect in sever cases can be a decrease in hemoglobin(cells ability to carry oxygen). another is causing problems in thyroid function which can lead to weight gain, goiter development and bulging of the eyes. this connects to our test in a few ways. one is that in runoff it can get not only in to the aquatic life but also in our ground water. so therefor it will eventually all make it back to our bloodstream or damage the environment by killing of aquatic life.  http://www.lenntech.com/periodic/elements/n.htm
